There are new fears among environmentalists and fishermen that the ecologically sensitive Gulf of Maine could be susceptible to a major oil spill now that the Norwegian energy firm Statoil has received approval in Nova Scotia to drill for oil in an area 225 miles southeast of Bar Harbor, near the Georges Bank and the entrance to the gulf. It would be the closest that exploratory drilling has come to Maine since the early 1980s.

Tom Pagnotti, who lived on Grove Street in Bath, and was briefly a host of WCME’s Midcoast Morning Buzz , a contributor to the radio station in other notable respects, and a nationally recognized radio and commercial voice, has died of cancer. Pagnotti was in his mid-50s and was involved in numerous community activities in Bath.

A woman pepper-sprayed and held in restraints against her will while she was a patient at Riverview Psychiatric Center in 2013 is suing the state, and her attorney hopes for a settlement in which the state will provide money for her treatment in a private facility. Edson is serving an 18-month sentence at the Maine Correctional Center in Windham. In February she pleaded guilty in a separate incident to assaulting a Riverview employee about a year after she was abused by Riverview workers.
