Variable Weather on the Midcoast

 

A little bit of everything in today’s weather. After the departure of the worst of the extreme cold, the arrival of a fast-moving snowstorm with an accumulation of no more than three inches. By this afternoon, we may have forgotten about the snow, with the sun due to show its face along with a high in the 30 degree range. Later in the weekend, it will be less windy with sunshine and calm winds expected on Sunday.

 

Fire in Bath

 

Fire has destroyed a home at 4 Libby Court in Bath, where there were no injuries, and several pets were safely evacuated. The source of the fire was a space heater under a pickup truck in a carport attached to the house. Bath firefighters were joined at the scene by five neighboring fire departments

 

An Embarrassing Court Appearance

Former state representative Brian Jones of Freedom has pleaded guilty to a disorderly conduct charge and failure to provide police with his correct name after an incident in September in which a state trooper discovered Jones having sex with a woman in a van in a “park and ride” lot in West Gardiner. Jones was given a 12-month deferred disposition, meaning that if he avoids further criminal trouble he can withdraw those pleas and the charges will be dismissed.
