05 Dec WCME Breaking News: State Representative Jeff Pierce of Dresden: Deport All Muslims
First-term Republican state representative Jeff PIerce of Dresden is taking heat for a post on his personal Facebook page saying that it’s time to deport all Muslims, and saying also that it’s “them or us.” The post is being criticised by House Democratic leader Jeff McCabe of Skowhegan who says in a news release that we cannot allow Pierce’s call to deport all Muslims to stand, and saying we must all join together against extremists–not play into their hands. McCabe goes on to say that Pierce must apologize and the leaders of his party must make clear whether they accept or reject his bigotry. But Rob Poindexter, the communications director for House Republicans says no formal statement from the Republicans will be forthcoming, saying the party doesn’t typically comment its members’ social media pages.
