Fifth-graders In the Middle of A Battle

After hearing last month from a band of upset parents, the school board in Brunswick has reversed a decision made last year to transfer fifth-graders from Harriet Beecher Stowe School to the junior high school. It’s also a move that follows a determination by school superintendent Paul Perzanoski that the Stowe school is not likely to experience overcrowding in coming years.

Southbound

The Maine Army National Guard is sending nearly 50 troops along with heavy equipment to assist Massachusetts in its snow removal. Governor LePage and Brigadier General James Campbell, the adjutant general of the Maine National Guard, both approved the request for equipment and assistance to Massachusetts.

 

Heating Oil Higher

The price of heating oil is again on the upswing in Maine, along with the price of gasoline. The latest survey from the governor’s energy office finds the average statewide cash price at $2-60 a gallon, up four cents from two weeks ago. The average statewide price for kerosene has also increased over the past two weeks to $3.14, up two cents, and average propane prices are likewise up two cents, to $2.68.
