12 Jun From WCME News 9: Police Standoff in Brunswick
In Brunswick, a peaceful end to a standoff situation at 383 Mere Point Road, where a man entered his house after having been pursued in a car chase in the wake of a disturbance in Lewiston, in which the man had apparently threatened to kill himself before taking off in the vehicle. Police agencies throughout the area were given a description of the car, which was spotted about 8:30 on Saturday evening by Topsham police and Sagadahoc County sheriffs deputies.
Brunswick police responded to the Mere Point residence, and were advised that the man planned to kill himself if officers entered the residence, where it was learned that there were also two firearms. A part of Mere Point Road was then closed to traffic, the man refused several requests to leave the residence, and the standoff didn’t end until about 2:16 this morning when the man was taken into custody without any shots fired.
The man, whose name has not yet been released, is at Midcoast Hospital undergoing evaluation. Charges are pending from Brunswick police and there may be further charges brought in Topsham and Lisbon in connection with the chase.
