Breaking on WCME: Bowdoin Climate Action plans “action” Friday

The battle over the proposed divestment of Bowdoin College financial holdings in fossil-fuel companies is heating up again. Members of the student activist group Bowdoin Climate Action say they plan to hold what they refer to as an “action” tomorrow afternoon while the college’s board of trustees is meeting on campus. In a news release, the group mentions the personal ties of some trustees to fossil fuel industries, and says while Stanley Druckenmiller, the chair of the trustees’ investment committee has told the students he shares their passion for climate action, they accuse him of not backing up those words with any steps toward aligning Bowdoin’s investments with its values.

Last year, the student group held a three-day sit-in at a college administrative office to protest the college’s refusal to divest from fossil fuels.
