07 Apr Breaking from WCME News 9: Acclaimed Educator Faces Shoplifting Charge
A quite unexpected story from Damariscotta, where police say Nanci Atwell, the acclaimed educator from Edgecomb who was last year awarded a one million dollar teaching prize, has been given a summons for shoplifting after she allegedly stole a white blouse from a Remy’s store. Damariscotta police chief Ronald Young says store security personnel observed Atwell browsing through the women’s section when she removed the blouse from a hanger, rolled it up and placed it in another bag she was carrying.
Atwell met with the chief and said she returned one piece of clothing for another piece. But there was apparently no return on video. Atwell is due in court next month.
