WCME Exclusive:

Just as candles lit the emerging darkness over the town mall in downtown Brunswick, it seems that comforting words had a similar impact on a crowd of as many as 200, many of whom have experienced some dark recent moments of the soul prompted by the unexpected passing of the Brunswick High School student who this week took her own life–Anna Hart.

The words of comfort came from Anna’s mother–Courtney Michalec, and from Pastor Mark Rockwood of Berean Baptist Church, who serves as chaplain for Brunswick Police and for other area first responders.

Talking through tears, Courtney thanked Anna’s friends in the crowd, saying “it means so much to us that you loved her, cared for her and supported her…Anna was a very special and very complex person…she was funny and witty and so smart…she had the most beautiful smile I have ever seen and the most contagious laugh.

But she also struggled a lot, even before we moved to Brunswick with anxiety and depression.”

Courtney’s full remarks are here.
