About This Project

On today’s WCME Midcoast Morning Buzz, Cumberland County District Attorney Jackie Sartoris voices the view that a so-called red flag law in Maine might have made a life-saving difference in Sunday’s triple homocide in Bath, in which a wife and daughter, Lisa and Jennifer Bailey, are believed to have died in a shooting staged by husband and father MIchael Bailey, who later turned the gun on himself.
Sartoris notes that Maine’s yellow flag law requires a connection between mental health and weapons restrictions, whereas a red flag law allows someone who is concerned to have a family’s weapons quickly removed. Sartoris says that would cause the danger factor to drop “incredibly significantly.”

The full interview, dealing with domestic violence, and also some talk about confidentiality laws in Maine, is here.
