State Representative Dan Ankeles Talks Budgetary Benefits on the WCME Midcoast Morning Buzz!!

Brunswick Democratic State Representative Dan Ankeles is declining comment on the newly reached agreement in Augusta on several key supplemental budget items, including the restoration of pension tax breaks for retirees and an increase in pay for educational technicians.

Noting the fragility of this deal, Ankeles says he doesn’t want to say anything that might upset the agreement prior to final legislative action on the supplemental budget, which by law, must happen by this Wednesday, April 17 at midnight.

However, Ankeles is quick to defend the overall supplemental budget, which he says is very attentive to the state’s housing crisis. Ankeles notes that there is funding for transitional housing for new Mainers, while they await their work permits, and five million dollars for the creation of a system that would allow mobile home park residents to leverage money from various sources to buy out mobile home park owners who are considering selling–an issue quite relevant in Brunswick at the present time.

Ankeles also has some interesting comments on the Maine legislative process. which involves frequent late-night work sessions.
