For the second time in less than two years, the federal agriculture department has denied a request from Governor LePage to ban food stamp recipients from using their benefits to buy sugary drinks and candy.
A LePage spokeswoman says the request will be resubmitted. On this weekend’s LePage and Richardson on WCME, the plan was defended by the governor and opposed by John Richardson, former Democratic speaker of the Maine House.
