In Bath, municipal tax bills are going out this week, and in a sudden surprise, the projected tax rate increase has been cut in half–from nearly five percent to two and a half percent. The city is receiving some money from Regional School Unit 1, which itself has received some unanticipated state revenue. The city is also getting a greater-than-expected business equipment tax reimbursement from the state.
Warning to all recent guests at the Brunswick Hotel: The establishment is notifying about 2600 former guests that a malicious program discovered on the hotel’s computer system may have allowed thieves to steal their payment information. Among those former guests are 320 Maine residents. The malware may have been unleashed by an employee unknowingly opening a malicious email attachment.
The summer tourist train running between Brunswick and Rockland is suddenly in jeopardy. It’s been operated for 12 years by Maine Eastern Railroad, which has now lost the lease for the state-owned line to Central Maine and Quebec Railway in competitive bidding.
