Tense Moments In Brunswick

A resident of the New Meadows Motel on Bath Road in Brunswick is at the Cumberland County Jail without bail after a domestic incident that drew a response not only from Brunswick police, but from police in Bath and Sagadahoc County sheriff’s deputies. Police responded to a 9-1-1 call from a woman reporting that her boyfriend was threatening her with a shotgun in the course of a dispute. AS itd turned out, the woman made it out of the motel and met with arriving officers, who would spend the next 90 or so minutes negotiating with the boyfriend, 29-year-old Robert Lind, who remained inside before finally exiting peacefully.

On WCME’s Midcoast Morning Buzz today, an impromptu debate broke out over a bill not yet fully drafted in the state legislature, which seeks to ban the sale of dogs and cats by pet stores in Maine. Brunswick town councilor Kathy Wilson, a lifelong dog breeder and pet groomer says the bill is not directly targeting animal abuse. But Brunswick state senator Stan Gerzofsky seeks to stop importation of animals from puppy mills, known for abuse and lack of proper care of animals. Maine’s Supreme Judicial Court has unanimously rejected an appeal and upheld workers’ compensation benefits for the widow of a Salvation Army financial manager in Brunswick who died of a heart attack on a treadmill where he was monitoring the financial markets on television. Gregory Sullwold had previously suffered a heart attack, was denied requests for help managing his workload, and was said to have been under extreme stress from managing a portfolio for the Salvation Army worth more than two billion dollars. Sullwold died in 2010.
