Conflicting Concerns

The lines are clearly drawn in the battle between the nurse who recently returned to Maine after treating Ebola patients in West Africa, and the LePage administration. Kaci Hickox is promising a legal fight against the governor’s intention to enforce a quarantine with a a court order, and the state is going to court as well. Hickox says she is not sick and should not have to stay home.

Cutler dials down

Eliot Cutler, the independent candidate for governor, looks to be about as close as one can be to dropping out of the race, yet remaining in it. Cutler has told supporters that they should vote for someone else if they think he can’t win, and Cutler’s most prominent supporter seems to have taken him up on that suggestion. Senator Angus King has switched his endorsement from Cutler to Democrat Mike Michaud.

A traffic oddity

It was the oddest of traffic accidents in downtown Brunswick, where a 68-year-old woman from Harpswell was attempting to park her car on Maine Street, apparently lost control of the vehicle, and slammed into the front of the building housing Gelato Fiasco and Little Tokyo, taking out a small window panel in each establishment. The woman, whose name has not been released by police, suffered injuries and was taken to Maine Medical Center in Portland.
